GUIDELINES

Original song or musical composition: your original Easter song, written by you (co-writes are ok) which highlights the Resurrection. We also welcome songs about the crucifixion, since our playlist will run from March 20 to March 31. These songs must be submitted by the composer/songwriter.

Song/composition should be roughly 3 to 4 minutes in length

Any genre of Christian/Gospel music is acceptable

We prefer a worship song which can be sung in a worship service , but your song/composition can also be a praise song, a choral work, a duet, or other form. Your song/composition can be derived from an old hymn, but you may use only the lyrics, as the melody must be yours.*

Recording: must be a clear, good quality recording. . A good quality recording will give you better chances of being listed on our Easeter playlist.  You may use any accompaniment ranging from single guitar to full band, or vocal only (as in choir harmony). The lyrics should be prominent. This can be recorded by you in your own home studio, or at a pro recording studio.  Make sure the lyrics are  “up front”.

Music videos are accepted! A video must feature your own original song, and have appropriate graphics for Easter. You may also submit a lyric video. *Note: If you are re-working an old hymn, you will have to have permission from the writer of the hymn to use lyrics from an old hymn or praise song, unless it is in the “public domain” which is usually 1922 or earlier. Do some research before finishing your work, to make sure you are not using a hymn that is currently under copyright.

FAQ

What is the cost to enter?  Entry is free of charge.

Who is sponsoring this?  Alpha and Omega Christian Songwriters is a not-for-profit group of worship songwriters from the Pacific Northwest.  We serve songwriters at every stage of their songwriting career, and have members from as far away as Ghana. NOTE: you do not need to be a member to enter your song.

What kind of songs can I submit?

  • Any genre of Christian/Gospel music is acceptable
  • Song forms:  worship songs preferred!  which can be sung in a worship service, but a praise song or choral work will also be acceptable. Some suggestions: solo praise song, a choral piece, a duet, or congregational recording.
  • Upbeat songs are suggested, since we are celebrating the Resurrection, but ballad-type songs also serve well for Easter.

Where will my song be played? We will be posting these songs on our website in a special Easter playlist www.AlphaOmegaSongs.com beginning March 20. This playlist will also be sent out on a variety of local  media and churches, plus social media such as Twitter (X), and GodTube on Easter week. We will ask your permission before sending your music to any of these outlets.

How will I know if my song is chosen for the Easter playlist? We will notify you within a couple of days, if your song meets our guidelines and quality standards. Mostly we are looking for songs that are respectful, and give glory to God.  The Easter theme is of primary importance! We are looking for songs that celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Are there any prizes or recognition?  Besides being on our Easter  playlist, you will be offered a free membership with Alpha and Omega Christian Songwriters. Note: Membership is not required to enter your Easter song.  If you choose to accept, and if you are approved for membership, your song will be automatically entered into our “Song of the Year” competition.  The winner of this competition will be announced at our Awards Ceremony in January 2025. See our past winners in our Gallery page.
