FAQ

How do I fit a Christian message and Christian worship songs into a fair performance?

  • Open for Christian performers. Some artists bring their own openers with them, but many times the fair entertainment coordinator will select openers. Choose a band or performer who most fits your style, then send a sample of your music, a couple of good performance photos and your bio (background and experience) to the fair entertainment coordinator.
  • Sunday services. Be assured that the fair management committees frequently have many Christians on their staff, and they welcome your creative ideas.
  • Be flexible. Celebrate your faith in song in genres other than CCM or Sunday worship songs.  Your Christian outreach may take many forms and include many genres. See “How do I choose a  genre”, below.
  • Be sure that your music is Christ-honoring, and that your intent is clear. Speak plainly upfront to your contact about what kind of music you plan to perform.  It also helps to give them options.

How do I choose a genre, or a theme?  So many possibilities!

  • Americana
  • Fourth of July
  • Gospel/Blues
  • Jazz or rock instrumentals using praise songs, and your original songs. Christians have the edge on feel-good and uplifting music!
  • Sunday Worship Services. These are generally on Sunday morning before the start of the fair.

Should I wait to plan out my setlist until after I am contacted?

  • Be proactive and have your setlist ready.
  • Offer to send a sample of your music, your bio and good photo of you and/or your band. Have these ready to go before you contact the entertainment manager, so they will be easy to send when they ask.
  • Be courteous when dealing with fair representatives. These people volunteer and serve because they love their county fair, and they deserve to be treated with respect.

Do fairs pay performers?

  • Ask your contact up front if they offer compensation. Some do, and some don’t.
  • If they ask you to name an amount, be prepared. The questionnaire you fill out online may include a question about “expected compensation”. The rule of thumb is to ask for what you normally would be paid for performing, and if you don’t know, the simple answer to this complex question is: ask yourself what reasonable amount you would be happy with.
  • If they are flexible, be willing to negotiate in a polite and friendly manner. We are not encouraging anyone to leave money on the table if it is offered. Conversely, we are not in the habit of taking advantage of the good will of the people who put together our county fairs.
  • Be aware that some fairs offer a set amount. This pre-set amount is calculated by their budget restraints, and is usually non-negotiable. It is up to you to accept or refuse, but if you can afford to take the amount offered, accept graciously, and count it as good experience!
  •  If you need more help in negotiating compensation, we will be happy to give you a few pointers. You may call us at:  (425) 283-8930, or email us at: info@AlphaOmegaSongs.com

Do I need to practice a National Anthem?

  • Have a great unique version of the National Anthem ready to go at all times.
  • You may be called upon to sing the National Anthem at a moments notice, and you will want to be ready.
  • Better yet, suggest to the entertainment manager of the fair that you have a National Anthem ready.  You may be happily surprised at the response you get.
